BRIDGEPORT BUSINESSES STEP UP FOR HAITI

September 9th Fundraiser For Construction of Lifesaving Firefighter Academy

Bridgeport, CT.,  September 09, 2015--   A sorely-needed firefighters academy in Haiti is being planned by a group of local Fairfield County and tri-state area businesses known as Haiti Works!   Led by Bridgeport Reverend Pierre D'Haiti and building contractor Peter Di Natale & Associates, Inc., the relief organization has already sent the needy community, Petion-ville, outside of Port Au Prince, a fully-equipped firetruck (nicknamed “Hope”) previously used by the Bridgeport Fire Department.  Haiti Works! believes a firefighting academy is the next logical step in its effort to help safeguard a community still suffering the effects of the devastating 2010 earthquake.  The organization has also donated thousands of pairs of shoes to residents of the area.

The main fundraising tool for the firefighting academy effort will be a golf tournament and dinner on September 9th, 2015 at the Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury, CT., 100 Aunt Hack Road, Danbury, CT 06811, from 12pm-8pm EDT.

“Our friends in Haitian communities from Bridgeport to Brooklyn tell us that in Haiti these small efforts have tremendous impact on the ground, fulfilling needs that governments and large relief organizations can’t attend to,” said Peter Di Natale, President of Peter Di Natale & Associates, Inc. “Being in the construction industry, we knew we could provide some of the organization and management skills that Reverend D’Haiti and others from the area say will save lives.”

Reverend Pierre D’Haiti, Pastor of the Faith Community Church, Associate Pastor at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and President of Haiti Works!, says his community in Bridgeport realized that the organization’s mission was a natural extension of the relationships he has had with his neighbors in Fairfield County and the broader Connecticut and New York communities.

“Life-threatening accidents, health emergencies and other incidents that require immediate rapid response teams in this area of Haiti can affect the country’s national recovery,” said Reverend D’Haiti. “Most people don’t realize that having coordinated protection systems like these in place can mean more in some situations than the major aid projects, especially when it comes to keeping the economy of the local community going. But our friends right here in the northeastern U.S., who are builders and project managers, get that, and because of their efforts we are able to bring this kind of help to our countrymen in Petion-ville.”

Haiti Works! is a completely volunteer-run organization, with all staff time and services donated by local Connecticut and New York businesses.  One hundred percent of its proceeds are directed toward its projects in Haiti, which are performed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Air Force Southern Command, the U.S. State Department, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and their counterparts at the Government of Haiti.
